If I had to choose between apples and pears, I would choose pears most of the time. I know many people would disagree, but pears are just extra soft and sweet when they are ripe. Apples typically aren't as soft and juicy. And when you make these brie stuffed baked pears, they get delectably caramelized!
What I love about baked fruits is that you satisfy those dessert cravings, but they aren't overly sweet. Since I barely consume cane sugar, when I eat something like cake or ice cream, I always feel unwell afterwards. I can truthfully say that that is not the experience I had with these baked pears.
If you wish, you can remove the stems or leave them on for a decorative touch. When you drizzle brie stuffed baked pears in maple syrup and sprinkle a little spice and pecans on top, you get a heavenly but light dessert.
The Best Pears for Baking
For baked pears there are several types of pears that you can use. There are definitely some that turn out better when baked than others. For this recipe, I used Bartlett pears because they turn out extra soft and juicy but hold their shape. They are easy to find in supermarkets. However, you can also use Bosc pears, D’Anjou pears, Forelle pears, French Butter pears, and Concorde pears.
What You Will Need:
Two 9x13 greased baking dishes or baking sheets
A melon baller or spoon
6 medium pears
½ block brie cheese sliced into squares
2 tbsp melted butter
¼ cup maple syrup
1 tbsp cinnamon dried
1 tbsp ginger dried ground
1 tbsp cloves dried ground
½ cup pecans
How to Make Brie Stuffed Baked Pears:
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Slice the pears in half lengthwise. Then, scoop out the center with a spoon or melon baller.
Lay the pears on the baking dishes or sheets with the insides facing up.
Pour the melted butter over the pears followed by the maple syrup and spices.
Turn the pears over so the skin side faces upward. This will help to caramelize the pears.
Bake the pears for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, remove the pears from the oven and flip them over.
Place the brie squares into the center of the pears, sprinkle the pecans on top and place them back into the oven for another 10-20 minutes or until the brie has melted.
Remove the pears from the oven and allow to cool before serving. Drizzle with extra maple syrup if desired.
