A healthier take on the shamrock shake. This nutrient dense, raw milk recipe is minty fresh with ingredients you can feel good about.

A healthier shamrock shake made with spinach and raw cream.

It's honestly been many years since I've ate at McDonald's but I used to love their seasonal shamrock shakes every year. When late February/March hit, you best bet I'd be in that drive through line.

Nowadays, you could not pay me to eat McDonald's but I still love shamrock shakes. The fast food version has an assortment of ingredients that our bodies do not recognize or process very well. Even many homemade recipes call for toxic green food dye.

Frozen spinach is a good replacement for green food dye here because it not only contains vitamins and minerals, but you also don't taste it at all. Plus you get that characteristic minty green shake.

This shake is creamy, minty, and sweet just like the original, however I find this whole food shamrock shake to be a little lighter in texture and sweetness. It's like a fluffy, minty cloud and pairs perfectly with chocolate.

Grate chocolate on top of the homemade shamrock shake.

You can grate chocolate on top of the shake if you want, or whip up heavy cream and dollop it on there. Also, as a side note, it's normal to have a little bit of separation in the shake ingredients in whole food shakes and smoothies.

Especially with raw milk that hasn't been homogenized (find out why we prefer raw milk here), you can see more separation. If it's been sitting for a little bit, you can always stir or blend it again.

    Ingredients

2 cups raw milk (can substitute with pasteurized)

1 cup raw cream (can substitute with pasteurized)

    2-3 tbsp raw honey

    ½ tsp peppermint extract

    1 tsp vanilla extract

    2 frozen bananas

    2-3 cups frozen spinach

    2 tbsps collagen powder (optional)

2+ pasture raised raw egg yolks (optional)

A glass of healthy, nutrient dense shamrock shake filled with raw milk, pastured egg yolks, collagen and other whole food ingredients.

    Instructions

This recipe is super simple to make! Just add the cream, milk, egg yolks, honey, vanilla and peppermint extracts to the blender first. Usually shakes blend better when you add the liquid ingredients first.

Then add the collagen powder followed by the frozen spinach and frozen banana.

Blend until creamy and serve with freshly whipped cream. This shamrock shake also goes well with chocolate. Enjoy!
