The easiest meal filled with tender, saucy, meaty goodness pouring out of a toasted pretzel bun. Tangy, smoky, and ultimately delicious.
Sloppy joes are one of those meals that you don't really think about. You just throw it together at the end of a busy day and call it a night.
But I'm here to tell you that sloppy joes can taste gourmet.
I love these crockpot sloppy joes so much that I could eat them every week. Not only are they delicious, but they are one of those dump and go meals that hardly take any effort to make.
I like to cut down on time even more by throwing the veggies in the food processor before pouring them directly into the pot.
Why make sloppy joes in the crockpot?
Cooking meat in the crockpot tends to lead to the softest and most flavorful meat, especially when its cooked in a sauce. It allows the fibers to break down more while absorbing all of that sauciness.
Crockpot meals also work better for me because I get tired after a long day of homeschooling, mothering, and homemaking. Sometimes I really have to drag myself into the kitchen to cook dinner. But when I do crockpot meals, I can do the bulk of the work earlier in the day when I have more energy.
These crockpot sloppy joes have a vibrant but subtle smoky flavor. They live up to their name- they're sloppy!, but they are honestly fun and my kids love them.
What you will need
1 ½ lbs ground beef
½ medium yellow onion diced
1 medium green bell pepper diced
4 cloves garlic minced
1 cup tomato sauce
¼ cup barbeque sauce
2 tbsp tomato paste
½ tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp mustard (yellow or dijon will work)
2 tsp paprika
How to make the ultimate crockpot sloppy joes
This is probably one the easiest dinners you'll make. Put all of your ingredients into the crockpot except for the salt. Start with the ground beef and veggies, then pour the sauces and paprika on top.
Put the lid on the crockpot and cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 3 hours.
Once the beef is thoroughly cooked, break up the ground beef. Then taste the sauce and add salt as needed.
Ladle the saucy meat onto warm buns (I prefer pretzel buns). Sloppy joes taste great with homemade pickles and kettle cooked potato chips.
